Production notes

Grace was recorded primarily at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York, and Sony Music Studios in New York City during 1993-1994, with additional sessions at Shelter Island Sound. The album was produced by Andy Wallace, known for his work mixing Nirvana's Nevermind, and was Jeff Buckley's debut full-length release on Columbia Records. Wallace brought a polished yet dynamic production approach, carefully layering Buckley's expansive vocal range and intricate guitar work, which blended elements of rock, folk, jazz, and classical influences. Buckley insisted on recording many vocals live with the band to capture emotional authenticity, and the sessions were notable for his use of alternate tunings and a Fender Telecaster run through various effects. Despite initially receiving modest commercial success upon its August 1994 release, the album's production quality and artistic ambition led to its gradual recognition as one of the most acclaimed debut albums of the 1990s.
