Production notes

Deceptive Bends was recorded at Strawberry Studios in Stockport, England, the studio co-owned by the band, following the departure of Kevin Godley and Lol Creme, which reduced 10cc to the duo of Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman. The album was produced by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman themselves, with engineering handled primarily by Eric Stewart, who was known for his meticulous studio craft. Released in 1977, the album marked a significant shift in the band's approach, moving toward a more polished, pop-oriented sound compared to the more experimental work of the four-piece lineup. Session musicians were brought in to fill out the arrangements, including guitarist Rick Fenn and drummer Paul Burgess, who would become long-term collaborators. The album yielded the hit single "The Things We Do for Love," showcasing Stewart and Gouldman's strength in crafting melodic, layered pop productions with rich vocal harmonies and careful multi-track recording techniques.
