Get a Grip was recorded primarily at A&M Studios in Los Angeles and Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver between 1992 and 1993, and was produced by Bruce Fairbairn, who had previously helmed the band's successful Pump album. The engineering was handled by Mike Fraser, with additional mixing by Brendan O'Brien on select tracks. Fairbairn's production approach emphasized polished hard rock with radio-friendly hooks, and the album notably featured extensive collaboration with outside songwriters including Desmond Child, Jim Vallance, Mark Hudson, and Jack Blades, reflecting the commercial pressures of the early 1990s rock market. Released on April 20, 1993, on Geffen Records, the album became Aerosmith's best-selling studio record worldwide, propelled by hit singles such as "Livin' on the Edge," "Cryin'," and "Crazy," which showcased a balance of heavy guitar tones with accessible melodic arrangements. The production was shaped by the band's desire to compete in a rapidly changing musical landscape dominated by grunge, yet they maintained their classic blues-rock foundation while incorporating a more streamlined, contemporary sound.
