Midnight Marauders, the second studio album by A Tribe Called Quest, was recorded primarily at Battery Studios and other New York-based studios in 1993. The album was produced by the group's in-house producer DJ Premier, along with contributions from Q-Tip and other producers, featuring the group's signature jazz-influenced production style with heavy use of vinyl samples and live instrumentation. The recording sessions benefited from the group's collaborative approach, with Q-Tip handling much of the production alongside Premier's work on several tracks. The album marked a creative peak for Native Tongues collective collaboration, incorporating contributions from guest musicians and vocalists that complemented the group's laid-back East Coast hip-hop sound. Released in September 1993, Midnight Marauders became one of the most celebrated hip-hop albums of the 1990s, establishing the group's refined sampling techniques and production aesthetic that would influence subsequent generations of producers.
