Highway to Hell

First released

Highway to Hell was recorded at the Albert Productions studio in Sydney, Australia in 1979, marking AC/DC's first album recorded entirely in their home country. The album was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who brought a more polished and radio-friendly sound compared to the band's previous work while maintaining their raw rock energy. The recording took place over several weeks with engineer Tony Platt, who would become known for his work on many successful rock albums throughout the 1980s. Lange's production choices, including clearer vocal mixing and tighter arrangements, helped the album achieve greater commercial success and established a template that would influence rock production in the following decade. The album's release in August 1979 came during a period of significant change for the band, as it would be the last album featuring original lead singer Bon Scott before his death in February 1980.
