Aerosmith

Toys in the Attic

First released

Toys in the Attic was recorded at The Record Plant in New York and Los Angeles during 1974, produced by Jack Douglas and the band themselves. The album was engineered by Jack Douglas and Bill Szymczyk, with mixing contributions from both engineers working across the two studio locations. The production captured Aerosmith's raw blues-rock sound with relatively straightforward recording techniques that emphasized the band's live energy and Steven Tyler's powerful vocals. Douglas and the band opted for a more organic approach compared to heavily produced rock records of the era, allowing the guitars and rhythm section to drive the recordings. Released in February 1975, the album became Aerosmith's commercial breakthrough, significantly boosted by the massive success of the single "Sweet Emotion" which benefited from heavy radio and MTV rotation.
