Moon Safari

First released

Moon Safari, Air's debut album released in 1998, was recorded primarily at Studios Ferber in Paris, a facility known for its analog equipment and vintage gear. The album was produced by the band members Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel themselves, along with producer Charles Baudelaire collaborator Nigel Godrich, who contributed to shaping the album's lush, orchestral sound. The recording process emphasized analog instrumentation and synthesizers, with the band layering strings, horns, and vintage keyboards to create the album's signature sophisticated lounge and space rock aesthetic. The production took place during a period when electronic and alternative music were gaining mainstream acceptance, and Moon Safari became a defining work of the late 1990s French touch movement. The album's warm, polished production and careful arrangements reflected the band's meticulous approach to composition and their desire to blend electronic and acoustic elements seamlessly.
