Moon Safari

First released

Moon Safari, Air's debut album released in 1998, was recorded primarily at Studios Ferber in Paris, a facility known for its vintage equipment and analog capabilities. The album was produced by Air themselves (Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel) alongside producer Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, who played a significant role in shaping the album's electronic yet organic sound. The recording process emphasized the use of analog synthesizers, orchestral arrangements, and live instrumentation combined with electronic production techniques, creating the album's distinctive blend of lounge, downtempo, and electronic music. The production occurred during the late 1990s French touch movement, when French electronic artists were gaining international prominence. The album's meticulous production approach, featuring lush string arrangements and warm vintage tones, became influential in defining the downtempo and nu-jazz genres of the era.
