The recording sessions featured the band working with engineer Jimmy Nutt and utilized Fame's classic analog equipment and infrastructure. Mills encouraged the band to explore different textures and overdubbing techniques, resulting in a more polished and sonically complex album than their previous work. The production marked a significant evolution in the band's sound while maintaining their soul and blues roots, with the album ultimately winning a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2016.
