ATO Records — ATO0269
The original 2015 US ATO CD is regarded as a solid, dynamic pressing that faithfully represents the album's intentionally raw, saturated production.

Sound & Color, Alabama Shakes' second album, was recorded primarily at the legendary Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and also at RCA Studio A in Nashville, Tennessee. The album was produced by Blake Mills and Alabama Shakes' frontman Brittany Howard, with mixing by Tom Elmhirst. The recording process emphasized live instrumentation and analog techniques, capturing much of the album in single takes to preserve spontaneity and authenticity. Released in April 2015, the album marked a significant artistic evolution from their debut, incorporating more experimental production choices, expanded arrangements, and a deeper exploration of soul and psychedelic influences. The project continued a tradition of recording at Muscle Shoals' storied studios, connecting to the region's rich musical heritage.
