Selected Ambient Works, Volume II — Aphex Twin

Aphex Twin

Selected Ambient Works, Volume II

First released

Selected Ambient Works, Volume II was recorded between 1993 and 1994 across various locations, primarily utilizing analog synthesizers and equipment rather than computers. Aphex Twin, the project of Richard D. James, worked largely alone or with minimal collaboration, maintaining tight creative control over the production process. The album was recorded on a relatively modest budget compared to contemporary electronic music releases, utilizing a combination of studio sessions and home recording setups. James employed analog gear including Moog synthesizers and other vintage equipment to create the album's textural, evolving soundscapes. The album represented a shift toward more ambient, introspective material compared to the more beat-driven Selected Ambient Works 85-92, released in 1992, and was issued on Warp Records in 1994.
