The Suburbs — Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire

The Suburbs

First released

The Suburbs was recorded primarily at a converted barn studio in Hudson, Quebec, with additional sessions at other locations including Sonic Ranch in Texas. The album was produced by Arcade Fire themselves alongside Mark Driscoll and Mike Sapone, who served as engineers and co-producers. The band employed a diverse range of instrumentation and recording techniques, deliberately blending lo-fi and hi-fi production elements to capture both intimate and expansive sounds. Recording took place over several months in 2009 and early 2010, during which the band experimented extensively with analog and digital methods to achieve the album's layered orchestral arrangements. The album was released in August 2010 and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2011, marking a significant commercial and critical achievement for the band.
