The production incorporated over 100 different samples and utilized extensive multitrack recording, drum machines, and live instrumentation, reflecting the creative friction between Beck's lo-fi sensibilities and the producers' high-tech studio methods. Recording sessions involved numerous session musicians and took place across multiple studios including Image Recording and other Los Angeles facilities, with mixing engineer Tom Rothrock playing a crucial role in crafting the album's densely textured sonic landscape.
