Verve — V6-8526

"Conversations with Myself" was recorded by pianist Bill Evans between 1963 and 1966 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, with recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder. The album was produced by Creed Taylor for Verve Records and featured innovative overdubbing techniques that allowed Evans to play multiple piano parts layered over each other, creating the illusion of a musical conversation between three versions of himself. This multi-tracked approach was technically advanced for jazz recording at the time and represented Evans' exploration of new studio possibilities beyond traditional trio performance. The sessions were part of Evans' highly productive period with Verve Records during the mid-1960s, and the album was released in 1966 to critical acclaim for its compositional sophistication and technical achievement.
