Paranoid was recorded at Island Studios in London during 1970, following the massive success of Black Sabbath's debut album. The album was produced by the band themselves along with producer Rodger Bain, who played a crucial role in shaping the heavy, distorted sound that would define heavy metal. The recording sessions were completed relatively quickly, reflecting the band's growing confidence and tight musicianship at the time. Notable technical choices included the use of heavily distorted guitars and down-tuned instruments, which became signature elements of the band's sound. Released in September 1970, Paranoid became one of the most influential heavy metal albums ever recorded, featuring the iconic title track and helping establish metal as a major force in popular music.
