Paranoid — Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath

Paranoid

First released

Paranoid was recorded at Island Studios in London during 1970, following the commercial success of Black Sabbath's debut album. The album was produced by the band with Rodger Bain, who had also worked on their first record, and engineer Tony Martin. The recording sessions were relatively quick and economical, with the band capturing their raw, heavy sound using straightforward techniques that emphasized the natural distortion of their instruments rather than studio effects. The album's iconic title track was recorded as a quick filler in just 20 minutes, yet became one of the band's most enduring songs. The production captured the band's live energy and heavy blues-rock approach, establishing the template for heavy metal production that would influence countless bands.
