Analogue Productions — UHQR 0016 · Island — UHQR 0016 · Tuff Gong — UHQR 0016

Exodus was recorded primarily at Island Records' Basing Street Studios in London during 1976, with additional sessions at The Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, Jamaica. The album was produced by Bob Marley and the Wailers in collaboration with producer/engineer Tom Tom 82 and engineer Errol Brown, with mixing supervised by island Records' legendary engineer Karl Pitterson. The recording took place during a politically turbulent period in Jamaica, shortly after an assassination attempt on Marley in December 1976, which influenced the album's thematic content around persecution and spiritual redemption. Marley employed a more refined and layered production approach compared to previous work, incorporating live instrumentation with contemporary reggae studio techniques, and the album featured overdubbing and mixing that created a more polished sound while maintaining the roots reggae foundation.
