Exodus — Bob Marley & The Wailers

Bob Marley & The Wailers

Exodus

First released

Exodus was recorded primarily at Island Records' Basing Street Studios in London between 1976 and 1977, with additional sessions at The Tuff Gong studio in Kingston, Jamaica. The album was produced by Bob Marley and The Wailers in collaboration with producer Harry J and engineer Charles Farley, though Marley maintained significant creative control over the project. The recording took place during a pivotal period when Marley was recovering from a gunshot wound suffered in December 1976 and subsequently relocated to England for safety. The production featured the classic Wailers lineup including bassist Aston "Family Man" Barrett and drummer Carlton Barrett, whose tight rhythm section became a defining element of the album's sound. Exodus was mixed and mastered to showcase the band's reggae foundation while incorporating elements of roots rock, and it was released in June 1977 to become one of the most influential reggae albums of all time.
