Boston

First released

Boston's self-titled debut album was recorded primarily at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles between 1974 and 1976, with additional sessions at other facilities. The album was produced by John Boys and Brad Delp (the band's lead singer), with engineer Paul Ferraro playing a crucial role in capturing the band's sound. Tom Scholz, the band's guitarist and primary songwriter, was heavily involved in the production process and utilized innovative recording techniques, including extensive overdubbing and layering of guitars to create the album's distinctive dense, polished sound. The recording process was notably lengthy and meticulous, reflecting Scholz's perfectionist approach to the material. Released in August 1976, the album became a massive commercial and critical success, reaching number three on the Billboard 200 and establishing Boston's signature arena rock sound that would define the mid-to-late 1970s.
