Somethin’ Else — Cannonball Adderley

Cannonball Adderley

Somethin’ Else

First released

Somethin' Else by Cannonball Adderley was recorded on March 2, 1958 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, New Jersey, one of the most important jazz recording venues of the era. The album was produced by Orrin Keepnews for Riverside Records and engineered by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder, whose meticulous recording techniques captured the ensemble with exceptional clarity. The session featured Miles Davis on trumpet alongside Adderley's alto saxophone, creating one of the most celebrated collaborations in modal jazz history. Pianist Bill Evans, bassist Wynton Kelly, and drummer Philly Joe Jones completed the quintet that recorded the album's five tracks in a single session. The album's success helped establish the Riverside Records catalog as a benchmark for high-fidelity jazz recording during the late 1950s.
