Blue Note — BST-1595

Somethin' Else, released in 1958, was recorded at Columbia Records' 30th Street Studio in New York City on March 9, 1958. The album was produced by Orrin Keepnews for Riverside Records, with Cannonball Adderley leading a quintet that notably featured Miles Davis on trumpet, making this one of the few studio recordings of Davis with Adderley. The session was engineered under typical late 1950s jazz recording standards, capturing the ensemble's performance in real-time with minimal overdubbing, which was common practice for jazz recordings of that era. The album marked a significant moment in jazz history by bringing together two major figures and produced some of the most celebrated small-group jazz recordings of the period.
