Tapestry — Carole King

Carole King

Tapestry

First released

Tapestry was recorded primarily at A&M Studios in Hollywood, California between 1970 and 1971. The album was produced by Lou Adler, who worked closely with Carole King to create an intimate, stripped-down sound that emphasized her songwriting and vocal delivery. King played multiple instruments on the album, including piano, keyboards, and guitar, with session musicians such as James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Danny Kortchmar contributing to various tracks. The production employed relatively simple recording techniques that prioritized clarity and emotional directness, reflecting the early 1970s folk-pop aesthetic. Released in February 1971, Tapestry became one of the best-selling albums of all time and won four Grammy Awards, establishing King as a major artist in her own right beyond her previous success as a songwriter for other performers.
