Tea for the Tillerman — Cat Stevens

Cat Stevens

Tea for the Tillerman

First released

Tea for the Tillerman was recorded in 1970 at Island Studios in London, primarily under the production of Cat Stevens himself working with producer Paul Samwell-Smith. The album was engineered by John Wood, a renowned engineer known for his work on folk and acoustic recordings. Stevens recorded much of the material as intimate acoustic performances, reflecting the singer-songwriter folk-rock style that dominated the early 1970s. The album's sparse, direct production approach complemented Stevens' introspective songwriting and helped establish his mature artistic voice following his recovery from tuberculosis. The recording sessions took place during a period of significant creative renaissance for Stevens, resulting in one of his most commercially successful and critically acclaimed works.
