Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus was recorded in March 1963 at Columbia Records' 30th Street Studio in New York City under the direction of producer Irving Towbin. The album was engineered by Roy Halee, who would become known for his later work with Simon and Garfunkel. Charles Mingus led an ensemble featuring Eric Dolphy, Jaki Byard, and Dannie Richmond, among others, capturing his distinctive compositional approach and ensemble arrangements during the height of his creative period at Columbia Records. The recording sessions reflected Mingus's meticulous attention to orchestral detail and his ability to draw nuanced performances from his musicians in the studio environment.
