Risqué

First released

Risqué, Chic's third studio album, was recorded in 1979 at The Power Station in New York City under the production of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, who also served as the album's primary songwriters and musicians. The album was engineered by Bob Power and others at the state-of-the-art facility, which was known for its cutting-edge recording technology and had become a premier destination for disco and funk productions. Rodgers and Edwards continued their signature approach of crafting tight, syncopated rhythms and layered guitar work while maintaining the polished production aesthetic that defined Chic's sound. The sessions took place during the height of disco's commercial dominance, though the album incorporated increasingly sophisticated arrangements and musicianship that helped elevate disco beyond its dance floor origins. Risqué was released in November 1979 and became one of Chic's most successful works, spawning the hit single "Good Times" which would later become iconic in hip-hop history.
