ATCO Records — 33-232

Disraeli Gears, Cream's second album, was recorded in April 1967 at the Atlantic Records studios in New York, engineered by Tom Dowd who was instrumental in capturing the band's powerful sound. Producer Felix Pappalardi, who would later join the band as bassist, played a key role in shaping the album's polished yet heavy psychedelic rock sound, a significant departure from their debut's raw blues approach. The recording marked an early use of fuzzy, distorted guitar tones and innovative studio techniques, with Ginger Baker's drumming and Jack Bruce's bass work prominently featured in the mix. The album was completed quickly, reflecting the band's tight musicianship and the efficient studio practices of the era, and its success helped establish Cream as leaders of the emerging heavy rock and hard rock genres in 1967.
