Homework

First released

Homework, Daft Punk's debut album released in 1997, was recorded primarily at the duo's home studio in Paris and at other Parisian facilities including Pavillon Rouge studio. The album was produced by Daft Punk themselves (Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) alongside producer DJ Sneak and engineer Armand Baltazar, who contributed to mixing and engineering duties. The production relied heavily on sampling, funk and disco records, combined with house music sensibilities and analog synthesizers, reflecting the French touch movement emerging in mid-1990s electronic music. The recording process emphasized relatively modest technical setups by major label standards, contributing to the album's distinctive raw yet polished aesthetic that contrasted with the more expensive production methods of mainstream electronic music at the time. Homework became influential in bringing French house music to international audiences and established Daft Punk's signature sound of filtered, groove-oriented electronic music.
