Homework

First released

Daft Punk's debut album "Homework" was recorded between 1996 and 1997 primarily at their home studio in Paris, France, utilizing relatively modest equipment and a DIY approach characteristic of French house production at the time. The duo produced and engineered the album themselves, employing vintage synthesizers, drum machines, and heavy sampling techniques to craft their signature filtered house sound. The album was mastered and mixed with help from other engineers, and released in January 1998 on Virgin Records. A key creative choice was the extensive use of vocoders, pitch-shifted vocals, and heavy filtering of samples, which became hallmarks of their production style. The album's production reflected the broader French touch movement emerging in the mid-1990s, blending house music with funk and disco elements using analog and early digital production techniques.
