Homework

First released

Homework, Daft Punk's debut album released in 1997, was recorded primarily at their home studio in Paris as well as at various Parisian studios during 1996-1997. The duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter produced and engineered the majority of the album themselves, establishing their characteristic production approach. The album blended house, funk, and disco influences with heavy use of sampling, drum machines, and synthesizers, drawing inspiration from 1980s electro and Chicago house music. Homework was recorded during the emerging French touch movement and benefited from the relatively accessible production technology available in mid-1990s home studios. The album's raw, lo-fi aesthetic and innovative approach to electronic production significantly influenced dance music production techniques and helped establish Daft Punk as pioneers of modern electronic music.
