Random Access Memories

First released

Random Access Memories was recorded primarily at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City, with additional sessions at other prestigious locations including the Sony Music Studios in New York. The album was produced by Daft Punk themselves alongside collaborators including Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams, Giorgio Moroder, and Pharrell Williams, with engineer Raphael Saadiq contributing significantly to the production process. The duo employed a notably analog approach, incorporating live musicians and orchestral arrangements rather than relying solely on digital production, marking a departure from their previous work and reflecting a desire to capture the warmth and texture of vintage recording techniques. The production took place over several years between 2010 and 2013, utilizing a combination of analog synthesizers, live instrumentation, and studio technology to achieve a house music album grounded in disco and funk influences. This methodical approach and collaboration with seasoned musicians represented a significant artistic shift, positioning the album as a celebration of disco heritage while maintaining contemporary production standards.
