Random Access Memories

First released

Random Access Memories was recorded across multiple studios in Los Angeles and Paris between 2010 and 2013, with Daft Punk collaborating with producer Paul Epworth and engineer Mick Ilubinati among others. The album marked a significant shift toward live instrumentation and analog recording techniques, featuring collaborations with session musicians and vocalists including Pharrell Williams, Julian Casablancas, and Chic's Nile Rodgers. The duo utilized vintage equipment and analog synthesizers alongside modern digital technology, recording to tape and employing meticulous production methods that reflected their desire to capture the craftsmanship of 1970s and 1980s music production. Released in 2013, the album represented the group's most ambitious and time-intensive project, showcasing a departure from their signature electronic dance music sound toward a more sophisticated, human-centered production aesthetic.
