Low — David Bowie

David Bowie

Low

First released

Low was recorded primarily at the Chateau d'Hérouville in France and Musicland Studios in Munich between September 1976 and January 1977. The album was produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti, with engineer Harry Maslin playing a crucial role in the recording process. The production featured experimental approaches including heavily synthesized sounds, ambient textures, and heavily processed vocals, marking a significant departure from Bowie's rock-oriented work. The album was created during a period of personal and creative transition for Bowie and reflected influences from electronic music and the emerging krautrock aesthetic. Low became the first installment of the Berlin Trilogy and established a template for art rock and electronic experimentation that influenced subsequent decades of popular music.
