Station to Station — David Bowie

David Bowie

Station to Station

First released

Station to Station was recorded between August and October 1975 at the Record Plant in Los Angeles and Cherokee Studios, marking David Bowie's first album produced entirely by himself alongside co-producer/engineer Harry Maslin. The album was created during a period of significant personal and creative transition, as Bowie was developing the Thin White Duke character and moving away from the Ziggy Stardust era. The production employed innovative recording techniques including the use of the Harmonizer effect and featured a notably sleeker, more sophisticated sound compared to his previous work, with Carlos Alomar on guitar and George Murray on bass forming the core of the backing band. The recording sessions were notably efficient and focused, with Bowie's artistic vision clearly defined, resulting in a proto-electronic and dance-influenced style that would influence the disco and electronic music landscape of the late 1970s.
