Harvest — SHVL 777

Deep Purple in Rock was recorded at various locations between late 1969 and early 1970, primarily at the Grand Hotel in Torino, Italy, and at De Lane Lea Studios in London. The album was produced by the band themselves in collaboration with engineer Martin Birch, who would become a key figure in their later work. The recording sessions marked a significant shift toward a heavier, guitar-driven sound compared to their previous album, with Ritchie Blackmore's guitar work and Jon Lord's Hammond organ becoming central to the band's new musical direction. The production captured the raw energy of the newly reformed classic lineup, featuring the vocal contributions of Ian Gillan and the rhythm section of Roger Glover and Ian Paice. Released in June 1970, the album represented Deep Purple's successful transition from their earlier progressive rock style to heavy metal and became a commercial and critical success that helped define the emerging genre.
