A: We Are Devo! was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, California in 1977 and produced by David Bowie and Ken Scott, who brought a polished new wave sensibility to the band's robotic, minimalist sound. The album featured the hit single "Whip It" and showcased innovative use of synthesizers and drum machines alongside traditional instruments, capturing the band's satirical critique of consumer culture and technological conformity. Recording engineer Richard Brandelius and the production team utilized multi-track recording techniques to layer the distinctive vocal processing and mechanical percussion that became Devo's signature sound.
