Desperado, the Eagles' second album, was recorded in 1973 at the Record Plant in Los Angeles under the production of Bill Szymczyk, who had also worked on their debut. The album featured a more cohesive concept and refined sound compared to its predecessor, with the band focusing on the outlaw/Western theme throughout. Szymczyk and engineer J.J. Blair utilized analog recording techniques typical of the era, capturing the band's live instrumentation with an emphasis on harmony and acoustic elements. The album's production marked a significant shift toward country-rock sophistication, establishing the Eagles' signature sound that would define the decade. Desperado was released in June 1974 and became a major commercial success, eventually achieving multi-platinum status.
