Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book was recorded between 1956 and 1957 at Capitol Studios in Hollywood under the production of Norman Granz, who founded Verve Records and managed Fitzgerald's career. The album was engineered by experienced Capitol Studios technicians and featured lush orchestral arrangements by Nelson Riddle, who conducted the sessions with a full orchestra to complement Fitzgerald's vocals. The recording sessions were characterized by meticulous attention to detail, with Granz overseeing the project to ensure the highest quality production standards befitting this ambitious songbook collection. This was part of Granz's larger songbook project that established a new standard for vocal jazz albums in the 1950s, showcasing Fitzgerald's interpretive abilities across 49 Cole Porter compositions.
