Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab — MFSL 2-160

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was recorded between May and August 1973 at the Dick James Music Studios in London, with additional sessions at other London facilities. The album was produced by Gus Dudgeon, who had worked extensively with Elton John, and featured the songwriting partnership of John and Bernie Taupin at their creative peak. Recording engineer Nigel Molander oversaw much of the technical work, capturing the lush orchestral arrangements and diverse instrumentation that defined the album's sound. The production marked a significant expansion in scope compared to previous Elton John albums, incorporating strings, horns, and varied production techniques to support the album's ambitious double-album format and conceptual themes. The album was released in October 1973 and became one of the best-selling albums of all time, establishing Elton John as a major global superstar during the early 1970s rock era.
