King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, California between 1994 and 1995, following the massive commercial success of Angel Dust. The album was produced by Faith No More alongside Matt Wallace, who had worked extensively with the band on previous projects. The band employed a more collaborative and experimental approach during these sessions, incorporating diverse musical influences ranging from funk and hip-hop to progressive rock, while integrating live instrumentation with electronic elements. Recording took place during a period of significant creative evolution for the band, with vocalist Mike Patton's performances and the dynamic interplay between the band members defining much of the album's sonic character. The album was released in March 1995 and represented the band's final studio effort before their initial breakup in 1998.
