Fleetwood Mac recorded Tusk at the Record Plant in Los Angeles and other studios between 1978 and 1979, following the massive success of Rumours. The album was produced by the band members themselves along with producer Keith Olsen, marking a shift toward more experimental and diverse musical directions. Recording took place during a period of internal tension within the band, with members often working separately on their individual contributions rather than collaborating as a unified group. The album featured innovative use of studio technology and unconventional instrumentation, including the marching band that appeared on the title track recorded at UCLA's football stadium. Tusk was released in October 1979 and represented Fleetwood Mac's attempt to move beyond the polished pop-rock sound of Rumours into more adventurous territory.
