The album featured extensive use of Frippertronics, a tape-based delay system designed by Fripp that created loops and layered textures from his guitar work, which became a defining characteristic of the sound. Eno contributed synthesizer and treatments while also serving in a production role, with the two artists exploring ambient and experimental textures during sessions that captured a collaborative improvisation approach.
