Garbage

First released

Garbage's self-titled debut album was recorded between 1994 and 1995 at various locations including Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin, and the band members' own home studios. The album was produced by the band itself—Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig—with Butch Vig taking a leading role in production and engineering. The band employed innovative sampling and manipulation techniques, heavily utilizing analog and digital recording equipment to create their signature industrial pop sound. Recording took place across multiple studios and sessions, with the band working with engineer Jason Corsaro and taking an experimental approach to songwriting and arrangement. The album was released in 1998 and became a commercial and critical success, establishing Garbage as a major force in alternative and electronic music of the late 1990s.
