The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

First released

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was recorded between 1973 and 1974 at the Island Studios in London and other locations, with production handled by Genesis themselves alongside producer John Burns. The double album marked Peter Gabriel's final studio work with Genesis before his departure from the band, and it featured increasingly elaborate production techniques including multitrack recording and studio layering that showcased the band's growing technical sophistication. The recording process was extended and complex, reflecting the album's ambitious conceptual narrative and progressive rock arrangements. Engineer David Hentschel played a significant role in the technical execution of the project, helping to realize the band's intricate sonic vision. The album's release in late 1974 coincided with a major tour and represented the peak of Genesis's creative ambition during their early 1970s progressive rock period.
