All Things Must Pass — George Harrison

George Harrison

All Things Must Pass

First released

All Things Must Pass was recorded primarily between May 1968 and July 1969 at George Harrison's home studio, Friar Park, as well as at Abbey Road Studios in London. The album was largely self-produced by Harrison with engineer Geoff Emerick, who had previously worked on The Beatles' later albums. Harrison recorded the album during a period of creative frustration within The Beatles, using a combination of 8-track and 16-track recording techniques that were advanced for the time. The production is characterized by lush orchestral arrangements, prominent use of synthesizers and multiple guitar overdubs, reflecting Harrison's desire for fuller sonic textures than he could achieve within The Beatles' collaborative format. The album was released in November 1970, shortly after The Beatles' breakup, establishing Harrison as a major solo artist in his own right.
