Idle Moments was recorded on September 2, 1963, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, with legendary recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder overseeing the sessions. The album was produced by Alfred Lion for Blue Note Records and featured Grant Green's guitar with a rhythm section including Joe Chambers on drums, Elvin Jones on saxophone, and Duke Pearson on piano.
