Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab — UDCD 712

Use Your Illusion II was recorded primarily at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles between 1989 and 1991, with additional sessions at other facilities including Capitol Studios and The Record Plant. The album was produced by the band members themselves along with Mike Clink, who had also produced the Appetite for Destruction album, bringing continuity to the production approach. The recording process was marked by extended sessions and multiple takes, reflecting the band's perfectionist approach during a period of significant commercial success and internal creative tension. Notable technical choices included the use of both analog and emerging digital recording techniques, with Axl Rose's vocals layered extensively throughout the tracks to achieve his desired sound. The album's production was completed during a tumultuous period for the band, with various lineup changes and creative disagreements influencing the final sonic character of the record released in September 1991.
