Guns N’ Roses

Use Your Illusion II

First released

Use Your Illusion II was recorded primarily at One on One Studios in Los Angeles and The Record Plant in Hollywood between 1990 and 1991, with additional sessions at other locations. The album was produced by Guns N' Roses (credited as producers alongside engineer Microphone Man), with significant contributions from Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero, who mixed the record. The band employed a combination of analog and digital recording techniques, capturing expansive orchestral arrangements and layered guitar work that complemented Axl Rose's vocal performances. The extended recording sessions reflected creative tensions within the band and perfectionist tendencies, particularly from Rose, resulting in a more polished production compared to the rawer Appetite for Destruction. Released in September 1991 alongside Use Your Illusion I, the album reached multi-platinum status and represented a commercial peak for the band during their original era.
