Relativity Records — ZK 91070
Canadian pressing of the original 1995 CD; generally regarded as sonically equivalent to the US original but seldom singled out.

Joe Satriani's self-titled debut album was recorded in 1986 and released in 1987 on Relativity Records. The album was produced by Otha Young, known for his work in R&B and pop production, who brought a polished, accessible sound to Satriani's instrumental rock compositions. Recording took place at multiple studios in the Los Angeles area, with engineer work that emphasized clear, pristine guitar tones and layered synthesizer textures alongside live drums. The production represented a departure from the harder rock edges of Satriani's earlier work, instead focusing on melodic sensibilities and radio-friendly arrangements that would help establish instrumental rock as viable commercial music in the late 1980s. The album's success, driven largely by the single "Satch Boogie," helped launch Satriani's international career and demonstrated the commercial potential of instrumental guitar-based rock.
