Fogerty worked with producer John Fogerty himself along with engineer Thom Panaggio, utilizing analog recording techniques combined with emerging digital technology of the mid-1980s. The album featured Fogerty's signature guitar-driven rock sound with stronger emphasis on contemporary 1980s production polish compared to his earlier Creedence Clearwater Revival work. Centerfield became a commercial success and Grammy-winning effort, re-establishing Fogerty's presence in rock music and demonstrating his ability to update his classic sound for the mid-1980s era.
