Nautilus Recordings — NR 11

Court and Spark was recorded in 1974 at The Record Plant in Los Angeles and Capitol Studios, marking Joni Mitchell's most pop-oriented work to date. The album was produced by Mitchell herself along with Henry Lewy, an engineer and producer who would become a frequent collaborator on her subsequent work. Mitchell worked with a full band rather than her previous acoustic approach, incorporating elements of jazz fusion and rock, with notable contributions from musicians including Robben Ford on guitar and Max Bennett on bass. The production showcased a deliberate shift toward commercial accessibility while maintaining Mitchell's sophisticated songwriting and harmonic complexity. This album became her most commercially successful release, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 and winning a Grammy Award for Best Pop Album in 1975.
