Escape

First released

Journey's 1981 album Escape was recorded at Capitol Studios and One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles under the production of Mike Stone and Micah Ross, who also produced their previous album Captured. The album was engineered primarily by Shelly Yakus and Mike Stone, utilizing advanced recording techniques available in early 1980s studios. Recorded during a period when the band had achieved significant commercial success following their 1978 self-titled album, Escape marked a deliberate effort toward more radio-friendly, pop-oriented rock songs compared to their earlier work. The album's production showcased polished synth-rock arrangements that reflected the musical trends of the early 1980s, with notable use of synthesizers and keyboards alongside traditional rock instrumentation. Escape became Journey's best-selling album and highest-charting release, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart and featuring the hit singles "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Open Arms."
