Aerial — Kate Bush

Kate Bush

Aerial

First released

Aerial was recorded between 2001 and 2005 across multiple sessions at Kate Bush's own home studio, The Pier House, located in East Sussex, England. The album was produced solely by Kate Bush herself, with engineer Mark Freegard assisting on mixing and production duties. Bush employed innovative recording techniques including extensive use of orchestral arrangements, field recordings, and layered vocal harmonies, particularly on the two-disc set which featured the ambitious "A Sky of Honey" suite. The production process was notably lengthy and meticulous, reflecting Bush's perfectionist approach and her first album of entirely new material in over a decade. Aerial marked a significant moment in Bush's career as her first completely independent production, showcasing her full creative control over both composition and technical execution.
