The recording was produced by Manfred Eicher for ECM Records, with engineer Martin Wieland capturing the performance using minimal microphone placement to preserve the natural acoustics of the venue. Jarrett performed entirely without a score or predetermined structure, relying on spontaneous improvisation, which was characteristic of his approach to solo piano concerts during this period.
