LCD Soundsystem

Sound of Silver

First released

Sound of Silver, LCD Soundsystem's second studio album, was recorded primarily at DFA Studios in New York City and other locations between 2004 and 2010, with production led by James Murphy alongside co-producers Philippe Zdar and others. The album featured Murphy's continued collaboration with engineer Juan Nieto and utilized a blend of analog and digital recording techniques, with Murphy paying meticulous attention to detail in layering synthesizers, drums, and vocals. The extended recording period reflected Murphy's perfectionist approach, with tracks being refined and reworked multiple times before the album's release in March 2010. The production showcased the evolution of LCD Soundsystem's sound toward a more polished and orchestrated electronic aesthetic compared to their debut, incorporating live instrumentation alongside electronic elements. Sound of Silver marked a significant shift in the band's creative direction and demonstrated Murphy's growth as a producer working with his established DFA label infrastructure.
