Led Zeppelin

Physical Graffiti

First released

Physical Graffiti was recorded between 1970 and 1974 across multiple sessions at various locations including Led Zeppelin's own Headley Grange rehearsal space, as well as professional studios such as Island Studios in London and Electric Lady Studios in New York. The album was produced by Led Zeppelin themselves in collaboration with engineer Eddie Kramer, who brought significant technical expertise to the sessions. The band employed innovative recording techniques including the use of multitrack recording and experimentation with layering to create the album's dense, textured sound. Released in February 1975, Physical Graffiti marked a shift toward more deliberate song composition and studio craftsmanship compared to some of their earlier work, while still maintaining the heavy rock foundation the band was known for. The double album format allowed the band to showcase the breadth of their musical range, from hard rock to folk and blues influences.
