The album was produced by Led Zeppelin themselves along with engineer Eddie Kramer, who was instrumental in capturing the band's evolving sound during this period. Notable technical choices included the use of Headley Grange as a live recording space, which allowed the band to experiment with acoustic arrangements and live instrumentation in an unconventional setting.
