Heligoland — Massive Attack

Massive Attack

Heligoland

First released

Heligoland, released in 2010, was recorded across multiple studios including The Chem19 in Bristol and other locations between 2008-2010. The album was produced by Massive Attack themselves along with several collaborators including Nick Davis, who had worked with the group on previous projects. The production process was notably extended and experimental, with the band utilizing digital recording techniques while maintaining their characteristic use of live instrumentation and vocal features from guest artists. The album marked a return after a five-year hiatus and reflected the band's continued evolution of their trip-hop sound with darker, more abstract textures compared to their earlier work. Recording took place during a period of significant technological change in music production, which influenced the band's approach to blending analog and digital elements.
