Heligoland — Massive Attack

Massive Attack

Heligoland

First released

Heligoland, Massive Attack's fifth studio album, was recorded primarily at the band's own Trick Box studio in Bristol between 2006 and 2010, marking a return to their hometown after years of working in various international locations. The album was produced by Massive Attack themselves alongside producer/engineer Neil Davidge, who had previously collaborated with the band on Mezzanine. The extended recording period reflected the band's meticulous approach, incorporating contributions from various guest vocalists and producers including Burial, Amon Tobin, and others while maintaining the band's characteristic blend of electronic, dub, and post-punk influences. The production utilized both analog and digital recording techniques, with particular attention to texture and spatial sound design that had become hallmarks of the band's work. Released in February 2010, Heligoland represented the band's first full-length studio album in six years and demonstrated their continued evolution within electronic music while maintaining their experimental ethos.
