- Mixed by
- Fredrik Thordendal, Meshuggah

obZen was recorded at Fredman Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden, the same facility where Meshuggah had recorded previous albums. The album was produced by the band themselves in collaboration with Fredrik Nordström, who served as engineer and mixer, continuing the productive relationship established on their earlier work. The recording process emphasized the band's signature polyrhythmic complexity and heavy guitar tone, utilizing extensive layering and precision editing to achieve the intricate instrumental arrangements. Released in 2008, obZen represented the band's continued evolution of their mathcore sound during a period when progressive metal was gaining significant mainstream recognition. The production maintained Meshuggah's characteristic aesthetic of dense, aggressive instrumentation while showcasing improved clarity and definition compared to some of their earlier recordings.
