Isn't Anything, My Bloody Valentine's debut album, was recorded primarily at Phonogram Studios in London during 1988 under the production of Angus Thomas and the band themselves. The recording process was marked by the band's experimentation with guitar textures and effects, establishing many of the sonic characteristics that would define their later work. Engineer and producer Angus Thomas played a key role in capturing the band's evolving shoegaze sound during a period when the genre was still developing. The album featured extensive use of effects pedals, layered guitars, and unconventional recording techniques that reflected the band's growing technical ambition. Isn't Anything was released in April 1988 and served as a crucial stepping stone toward the landmark production techniques that would define their subsequent album Loveless.
