Reprise Records — RS 6383
The original 1970 US Reprise pressing is highly regarded on SHF for its warm, natural analog sound and is considered a reference for the album.

After the Gold Rush was recorded in 1970 at various locations including Neil Young's home studio and commercial studios in California, primarily featuring Young with his backing band Crazy Horse. The album was produced by Neil Young himself along with David Briggs, who also served as keyboardist and played a crucial role in shaping the album's sound. The recording sessions were characterized by a relatively sparse, intimate approach with emphasis on live performances and acoustic instrumentation, contrasting with the heavier rock sound of some contemporary releases. Engineer Jeff Lynne and others worked on the sessions, capturing Young's distinctive vocal delivery and the band's organic interplay. The album's production reflected the early 1970s shift toward more introspective singer-songwriter material while maintaining rock credibility, and it became one of Young's most critically acclaimed and commercially successful works.
