After the Gold Rush — Neil Young

Neil Young

After the Gold Rush

First released

After the Gold Rush was recorded primarily at The Broken Arrow Ranch in Skyline Boulevard, California, and at Capitol Studios in Hollywood during 1970. The album was produced by Neil Young and David Briggs, with Briggs also serving as engineer and pianist on several tracks. Young employed relatively minimal arrangements, often featuring just voice, acoustic or electric guitar, and sparse instrumentation, which gave the album its intimate and direct sound quality. The recording sessions took place during a transitional period in Young's career following his time with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the album reflected his desire to return to more personal, introspective songwriting. The production approach emphasized live, spontaneous takes rather than heavy overdubbing, capturing the rawness that became characteristic of Young's solo work in this era.
